It is an eminently livable community with great appeal, especially to those who enjoy the benefits of
small-town hospitality and the proximity of world-renowned scenic splendor with
unlimited outdoor recreation.
The Ashland elementary
and high schools are excellent, as they are throughout Jackson County,
with a strong academic and athletic heritage. Ashland is home to
Southern Oregon State College; other nearby institutions of higher
education include Rogue Community College in Grants Pass and Oregon
Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls. Over two dozen private
schools are in the Rogue River Valley region.

Just a short drive north on I-5 is
Medford, the county seat. It too contains many fine shops, restaurants, service
facilities, places of amusement and many cultural events. The Rogue Valley Mall
and Medford Shopping Center are two of the most frequented places in the county.
Jackson County has traditionally
prospered through its timber and agricultural resources. Today its
economic base retains those two dominant factors, with the addition of
tourism, computer technology, medical services, city and county
government, and the retail trade. It is significant that the county,
with its prominent cities of Medford and Ashland, is one of Oregon's
four metropolitan areas.
Land has been made available for almost any type of industry, and
transportation facilities include highway, rail and air. The
Medford-Jackson County Airport is served regularly by major airlines
and accommodates jet commuter planes and small planes alike.
Industrial parks, a large pool of labor, ample housing facilities, a
delightful climate and a diversity of recreation are exceptional
attributes that give Jackson County the potential to be one of the
